My rant!

Hello everyone, I hope you all are having a fabulous Monday!!

Today I'm going to be talking about something that seems to be a touchy subject to most. Curling of teh glitters!! Gasp! I know, I know very touchy!!
Anyway, I was looking through some swatches of different glitter polishes and noticed a couple that were extremely curly, like OMG taco city! So I did a google search for more swatches of this polish and every single one was curly :(
Now, I'm sure you all think I'm talking about an Indie polish but guess what??? I'm not!! I am talking about several pretty big companies.Yes I said several.
The first one is Color Club Sugar Plum Yum.I don't own this one but you can see what I am talking about by clicking here. I'm sorry I don't have any picture's for you to view but I would rather just link to the site I saw them at.
The second one is Color Club Very Merry Berry which is also here.
The third one I found is Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday and you can see it here.
And finally there is Wet n Wild Spoiled Shuffle The Deck and Trust Fund Baby which you can see here.
I am sure there is more but I don't feel like looking!!

So, by now your probably wondering why the heck I'm talking about this and I will tell you.

Why is there a double standard when it comes to Indie brand vs Major brand's?
If people buy an Indie polish and the glitters sink or curl you are demanding a refund or a replacement and if that doesn't happen they are slandering them all over the internet. BUT if  they buy a Color Club it's ok and nothing gets said about it?!?!
One would think that it would be more upsetting if a major brand put out a less then adequate product with the amount of resource's they have available to them.
It just doesn't make any sense to me!!

I understand that there are some people out there that have seen the Indie craze and thought to themselves "Wow all I have to do is put some glitter in some clear polish and I can make a ton of money" and then sell them to poor unsuspecting buyer's and then get mad because their polish was crap!!

I looked at about 30 different reviews on these and not 1 of them said anything about the curling or tacoing of the glitters, but if you look for reviews of any Indie brand you will see that it is brought up at least once. :(
Is it just me or is it just a brand thing?
I dunno, but I can tell you that I think it's wrong.

/rant over

Sorry if I offended anyone, but I felt this needed to be said!!

  2. OH and I'm glad you posted those 2 Color Clubs. I wanted them so badly but now I know I can live without the hassle! I can't believe Happy Birthday had so many curling glitters! For that much money it should be a quality product. I never had curly glitter in Milani Gems or Claire's Bedazzled which are both Happy Birthdayish glitters!

    1. I was pretty shocked myself when I was looking through swatches of the Color Clubs. Then I saw DL's Happy Birthday and almost died!! I knew I had to say something!!

  3. I seriously can not believe that neither of those bloggers said anything about the tacoing glitters! All of those pictures are examples of horrible tacoing and it really should have been mentioned in my opinion. Great post Angel!

  4. Very interesting - I guess I never quite thought of it this way because I haven't noticed any curling in any of my non-indie polishes (and only in a few indies). However, I tend to be more sympathetic to indie brands than mainstream brands. If I had curling glitter in a mainstream glitter I would be far more upset than in an indie because there is usually more capital going into quality control etc. I've had curling glitter in a few of my indies and honestly, I haven't demanded a refund or anything.. I figure it just comes with the territory.

  5. i usually comment on those posts of big brand glitters that have curling asking about it, because I have noticed it and even though I really wanted sugar plum yum I didn't get it because of the curling. And yeah, there is a double standard. I think it's probably more to do with the price of indies vs big brand polish that gets 'mean' girls pissed off? I don't really care. full on tacoing sucks but curling that is hidden by top coat is fine by me!

    1. also, i could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that the polishaholic doesn't really talk about curly glitters, she is a pretty positive reviewer in general so I don't necessarily think it's about being kinder to big brands :)

  6. lol I had seen swatches with curly glitter, but I had no idea that was a defect >.< But having double standards is definitely wrong, and the big companies had *better* not put out sub-par products, because that's just ridiculous. I sincerely hope (and generally get the impression) that no bloggers would be actually dishonest about their reviews for any reason.

  7. Then we all need to network and share the tacos. : ) That way nobody wastes money on 'em.

  8. For what it's worth, I have Trust Fund Baby, and I think it might be a trick of the light? I have had my bottle since a week after the line was released, and I don't have any curling or tacoing glitter, but sometimes when the light hits it in a certain way, it looks like it's curled. I don't have the others, but TFB hasn't curled on me and I use it pretty regularly.

  9. If my memory is serving me right (I haven't worn either of those Color Clubs since I posted them in November) I didn't notice the glitter "taco-ing" in those polishes, it was flat to the nail with a coat or 2 of top coat. For me personally I only notice or care about curling glitter if I can't get it smooth with a couple coats of top coat. This goes for indies and big brands.

    1. First, I want to start by saying (fan girl moment) OMG! OMG! OMG! I can't believe you are commenting on my page!!!!This is just so amazing and such an honor!!I bow to thee!!! Seriously, WOW!!
Second, I didn't mean it was the blogger's fault.I meant everyone in general. Your blog wasn't the only one I looked at for the Color Club swatches. I looked through at least 15 other's. Your's was the one I linked to because it had both on one page.I truly didn't mean any harm to you or anyone else. I just wanted to make a point, as an Indie, how unfair I thought it was that we are held to a higher standard than major brand's are.

    2. no worries, I'm not mad or anything like that :) I think you're right...they shouldn't be held to a different standard, we all spend our hard earned money on these polishes, the materials used to make them should be thoroughly tested before being sold to the masses
